This week we had a visit from the lovely ladies at Spritz and Splatter. They brought the K's a fun painting activity. Everyone was very engaged and worked very hard on their paintings. The room was silent while the creativity was flowing! We hope you all enjoyed the wonderful paintings your child created.
Langauge Arts:
We started the week by focusing on the -ig family. Students made an -ig word map together and independently. They also read an -ig book and sang a song to help remember this word family. Students also worked on sight word list #11 this week. They practiced reading the words with the teacher and as a group. Students played a sight word fishing game, clip it and scrabble to help reinforce these important words.
Math:
We began the week by reviewing sphere and cube and introduced cone. Students created their own cones. Students also learned about a rectangular prism and compared it to a 2d rectangle. They went on a rectangular prism hunt in the classroom. We finished the week by reviewing our 3D shapes and playing shape bingo.
Literacy:
We read "The Story of George Washington" and students practiced recalling facts from the story. We also read "I Am Martin Luther King, Jr" and students worked in pairs to illustrate important events from his life.
Science:
This week we reviewed the characteristics of reptiles and learned what extinct means. We sorted reptiles in our science notebook into living and extinct. Students were also introduced to amphibians. We read "What is an Amphibian?" and made a Venn Diagram comparing reptiles and amphibians. We also listened to different frog and toad sounds.
Character Education:
What is good judgment was the focus of our lesson this week. We discussed how we can use good judgment and completed a group activity reinforcing this concept.
Health and Safety:
We discussed where our fruits and vegetables come from and looked at different seeds. We practiced "planting" seeds and watering them and giving them sun until they grew. We read "Up, Down and Around" and discussed how different fruits and veggies grow. Afterwards students picked a fruit or veggie from a bag and added it to our garden drawing.
Social Studies:
We worked together as a class to finish our classroom map and reviewed the 3 things you find on a map. Students also enjoyed following a treasure map to find a special treat located in our school. They also created a treasure map of our classroom.
Kidwriting:
In kidwriting students practiced using their five senses to write a descriptive sentence.
Art:
We began a project making winter animals with our handprints.
Christian Ed:
Pastor Sarah read us a book about the ABC's of winter and all of God's wonderful winter creations.
Next Week:
