Sorry this is so late. I have been having computer issues!
Everything was back to normal in kindergarten after a very fun art show! Students were engaged in learning and participated in soccer shots on Thursday. They practiced scoring lots of goals! The week ended with a play day because Kindergarten Academy was closed for the day!
Language Arts:
Students were practicing identifying the beginning sounds of works this week. They read "Llama, Llama, Red Pajama" and identified beginning sounds as they read. Students also practiced reading and writing number words one through ten. They read each word, traced it and used it in a sentence. On Thursday the students put both of these skills together to read "Ten Green Monsters." The groups practiced reading sight words and number words in their own versions of the book.
Math:
Monday the students solved story problems written by other students and completed an addition assessment. The students have also been learning about money and earning a pay check by working. Tuesday the children got to work cleaning toys, chairs, tables, shelves and the classroom. They will be receiving a paycheck for their hard work! On Thursday the class talked about spend/save/share and how we spend money on needs and wants. They drew pictures of the things they can spend their money on, save their money for and people who they can share their money with!
Science:
In honor of Earth Day we spent science class talking about garbage and recycling. We read "Where Does the Garbage Go?" and talked about the difference between dumps and landfills. Students discussed the ways to reduce the amount of waste in these areas. On Earth Day students completed a recycling experiment. They pretended cereal was tires and smashed it into crumbs to show how shredded tires take up less space. We talked about what shredded tires can be used for including playground lining and roads. Students then added the special ingredients to create a road with their shredded tires. They spread all their roads out to make one big long road. The experiment showed all of the steps in the recycling project and everyone got dirty and had fun!!
Social Studies:
We are continuing our unit on community helpers. Students have been listening to stories about doctors, vets, construction workers and dentists and acting out these very important jobs.
Kidwriting:
We began our book writing project by brainstorming a topic and working on a story web.
Music:
The students listened to many different types of music and practiced identifying them and comparing them. The students listened to country, instrumental, dance, egyptian, celtic and disney tunes.
Christian Ed:
Students listened to the story of Phillip and the Ethiopian, Acts 8:26-40. They learned to tell others about Jesus.
