Language Arts:
This week we reviewed our sight words by playing Around the World and Bang! Students also practiced snail talk this week - saying the word slowly and listening to the sounds. Students worked in pairs using snail talk to blend new words! After students blended the word they drew a picture of the word.
Math:
We began the week by reviewing our February calendar and learning numbers 40 - 49. Students looked at the 100's chart and talked about place value. On Tuesday, students sequenced numbers 40-49 with number hearts and played a bean bag toss game to help identify the numbers. On Thursday we played a musical number game to help practice 50-59. Students also completed a number assessment.
Literacy:
This week in literacy the students have been writing their autobiographies. They presented them to the class on Friday.
Science:
We learned about our last animal group - fish! We watched a short video telling us interesting facts about fish and discovered how fish breathed! We recreated gills using a coffee filter rubberbanded around a cup. We carefully poured water with colored sand into the filter. The "gill" collected the "oxygen" and filtered out the water. The students colored a picture of what happened in their science notebooks.
Character Education:
This week we talked about the word "cooperation" and listed what we thought it meant! Students discussed why this is such an important word. We played two games the required us to use cooperation! The hula hoop pass game required everyone to hold hands in a circle and pass the hula hoop all the way around the circle. We used different size hula hoops and different amounts of hula hoops! We also played a spider web game where we created a web using yarn.
Health and Safety:
Proteins where the topic of class this week! We discussed how proteins help our body and where different proteins come from. We worked together as a class to sort proteins into plant and animal proteins. Students then completed a sorting activity in their food group books.
Social Studies:
We began our unit on transportation this week. We started by discussing what transportation looks like and making a long list of different forms of transportation. We sorted transportation by what carries people and what carries things. Students created an example of each type of transportation. On Wednesday we talked about how types of transportation move and watched a video about how a car is made.
Kidwriting:
Students used snail talk to write words they wanted to use in sentences. They practiced writing sentences to describe pictures of items.
Music:
In music we discussed the woodwind family and what these instruments were made of. We watched a brief video about how these instruments work and made our own woodwind instrument.
