Thanksgiving is right around the corner!! We have been busy this week reading sight words, learning less/more than and discussing living and nonliving. The kids are ready for turkey and time with their families! Along with all our fun learning the K's participated in Soccer Shots were the word of the week was honesty! They played a game were they had to be honest and complete tasks! We also had a visit from the Forgotten Friends Animal Rescue. They brought animals from the reptile family. We learned there are four different categories of reptiles: turtles, snakes, crocodiles/alligators and lizards. We even had the opportunity to pet a snake!
Language Arts:
Students have been busy learning about word families this week. The -at family has been our focus! We learned that you can change one letter at the beginning of a word family and make many, many more words! We also learned a song to help us remember words in the -at family!
Math:
We have been talking about less and more. Students guessed which cup had more marshmellows and then counted the marshmellows to check their answer! They have also started learning about double digit numbers. We are all the way to 13!!
Literacy:
We finished our author study on Jackie Urbanovic. The students voted on their favorite book and "Duck at the Door" was the class favorite! We also read "The Plump and Perky Turkey" to help get in the holiday spirit. After reading the story the K's drew pictures of how to cook a turkey! Check them out in the hallway!
Science:
We finished our mini-unit on living and nonliving things. We read "What's Alive?" and completed a sorting activity in our science notebooks!
Social Studies:
The students shared their family totem poles they created and we made a large class totem pole with all of them! We also learned about different Native Americans and their traditions and made crafts to go with each group. The students created a large class TeePee that they were able to play inside.
Kidwriting:
We practiced writing letters this week! We learned how the format of a letter and wrote a letter to moms and dads. We are getting ready to write our letters to Santa :)
Next Week!!!
Monday and Tuesday will be regular teaching days!
Wednesday, Friday and the following Monday will be play days! Students may bring one toy from home to play with during the day!
