This week at camp we continued learning about ocean animals. We also took a super fun field trip to Let's Pretend. The campers had fun running around and exploring the many themed rooms. They dressed up like rockstars and super heroes and pretended to cook, clean and take care of baby dolls. They also enjoyed the school room and enjoyed being teacher for the day!
Circle: Our word of the week was manners. We talked about how we can use our manners and were on the lookout for campers who were using their manners. We reviewed this term a lot during the week! Campers also practiced a sea otter and fish yoga pose! Vowel sounds were also reviewed during circle time.
Chapel: Pastor Sarah talked to us about how God loves us no matter what! And in christian education we read the story of "The Prodigal Son" and talked about how we would feel if we were the different sons.
Art: Monday we did art outside! Campers listened to the story "Fish is Fish" and created fish using crayons, chalk and water. They also created splatter paint with paint bottles. On Wednesday campers created ocean animal stick puppets with a partner and planned and performed a skit for the group!
Science: Tuesday we completed sink and float experiments in salt and regular water. Thursday we talked about what living things need to live and read "Living and Nonliving In the Ocean." Campers then drew a picture of something living and nonliving. Check them out in the hallway!
Cooking: Campers made marshmellow pops by dipping marshmellows in melted blue candy and rolling it in graham cracker crumbs. They added fish crackers! On Thursday, campers made rice krispy fish treats. They molded homemade rice krispies into fish shapes. Campers also helped write the recipe and wrote a sentence about what they find under the sea.
Reading: Campers listened to "A House for Hermit Crab" and practiced sequencing the story. They practiced writing the words hermit crab and made an actual house for hermit crabs by layering sand and dirt!
