Don't Forget!!!!! Tomorrow, Saturday October 24th is the Color Run at Roof Park!!! There is still time to register!!! Come join the fun!!
We have officially been in kindergarten for 39 days! This week the K's enjoyed a field trip to Smyser Farms. At the farm there were three different mazes to complete, fun yard games, a corn bin full of dumping and pouring toys and a pumpkin patch. The K's loved running through the patch finding the perfect pumpkin. We also got to go on a hay ride through the fields of Smyser Farms. They enjoyed a picnic lunch and then headed back to school for the rest of the day!
Language Arts:
The kids have been reviewing sight word list #3 this week. They learned how to play sight word hangman to help review these words. The students also played sight word bingo with their peers to reinforce the new words!
Math:
Students started the week learning about the number 4! They read "Little Four" and made a 4 with sticks and shaving cream. They traced the number 4 and used a tens frame to count to 4. They completed a worksheet to reinforce the number 4! On Wednesday they learned about the number 5 by singing "5 Little Pumpkins" and sequencing numbers 1-5. They competed rainbow writing and a 5 worksheet. On Thursday it was time for the number 6! The K's learned how to play count and sit and practiced making a 6 from wiki stix. Friday the students completed number stations!
Literacy:
On Monday the students voted on their favorite Margie Palatini book. "Bad Boys Get Cookie" was the class favorite. We used the rest of our literacy time to make thank you cards for the firemen who taught us about their fire truck. On Wednesday we read "The Biggest Pumpkin Ever" and created stick puppets of the two main characters, Desmond and Clayton. Friday we read "Spider Spider What Do You See?" and colored our own little book. Students practiced reading with their friends.
Science:
This week in science we learned about snow and that really big snow storms are called blizzards! We read the book "Blizzards" and learned that no two snow flakes are the same! We also made snow in our classroom! It was chilly and felt exactly like real snow!
Health and Safety:
The students got to pretend to be fire fighters and put out a fake fire with spray bottles.
Social Studies:
We reviewed types of feelings and what we should do when we are mad. The students also talked about what to do when they are sad.
Next Week:

Friday, October 30th - Fall Festival and Parade - Please send students costumes in a bag. We will help them get dressed before the parade. There is a sign-up in the classroom for party supplies and party volunteers!
