We started our week with Chapel and learned about all of the wonderful things God has made for us! The students also smiled pretty for their chef pictures this week!
Language Arts:
This week we focused a lot of initial sounds of letters. The students worked in partners to identify different initial sounds. They also worked on matching pictures cards with the letter representing the sound. Students finished the week by being introduced to vowels!
Math:
In math the students have been learning about patterns. They shared patterns they brought from home and completed pattern stations. On Tuesday the students played pattern bingo and made patterns out of food! They enjoyed eating their pattern when they were done! Wednesday they completed fall themed patterns - leaves, pumpkin and fall colored paper chains. On Thursday they read the story "Up, Down and Around" and identified sound patterns. They created sound patterns using rhythm sticks and created patterns from the story.
Literacy:
We read our last David Shannon book this week - "Duck on a Bike" and filled in our author study chart for the last time! On Wednesday the students voted on their favorite David Shannon book and drew a picture of it. They told the teacher why it was their favorite!
Science:
On Tuesday we finished our our science safety unit by creating Kool-Aid Fizz! The students made a prediction about what would happen based on the materials we were using. After completing the experiment the students recorded the results in their science notebook just like a real scientist does! On Thursday we began our unit on weather by reading "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." We identified real and make believe weather and made a list of questions we have about weather.
Social Studies:
We identified likes and differences and talked about how we all eat but we may eat different things. Students drew five of their favorite foods on a plate and compared their favorites with their peers. Students also worked with a partner to create a book about how they are alike and different. They compared houses, families, and foods!
Character Education:
We reviewed what we can do to be a good friend! Students then traced their hand on a piece of construction paper and cut it out. All of the hands were used to create a friendship wreath!
Health and Safety:
We reviewed the proper way to cross the street and began to identify different street signs. We talked about why the signs are important and what they mean!
Kidwriting:
Students practiced their fine motor skills this week to help them prepare to write! They made letters from playdough, built letters with sticks, traced different types of lines and traced large letters for arm movement.
Christian Education:
Pastor Sarah talked to the students about how God keeps his promises. They created stars with this special saying and finished with an echo prayer.
