Summer Camp Week#2 flew! This week we dove into the ocean and learned more about ocean animals and their habitat. Campers also had a water day on Wednesday and had a great time splashing their friends and their teachers! By the end everyone was soaked and smiling!
Circle Time: Our word of the week is "help." Campers were encouraged to help their peers and teachers this week. Campers spotted helping had their names written down on a piece of paper and entered into a bucket. Winners were drawn at the end of the week. We practiced many ocean animal yoga poses including dolphin, turtle and shark.
Art:
· Sponge painted ocean
· Looked at books to draw ocean animals
· Made plastic bowl jellyfish
· Balloon Fish
· Envelope sharks
· Crab cups!
Science: We read "Oceans" and identified animals that live in warm and cold ocean waters. Campers worked in pairs to draw an ocean scene full of animals and ocean creatures. Friday we read "Wish for a Fish" and talked about the five layers of the ocean and the animals that live in each area. We also made an ocean in a jar complete with five different levels of ocean!
Reading: The story campers focused on this week was "The Pout Pout Fish in the Big Big Dark." Campers reviewed the beginning, middle and end of the story. They also practiced writing ocean words - crab, fish, shark and seahorse. Campers created a miniature ocean animal book and watercolor painted the Pout Pout Fish.
Cooking: On Tuesday, campers made ocean water milkshakes. They combined vanilla ice cream, milk and blue jello powder in a blender and enjoyed the yummy concoction! On Thursday campers made ocean cookies. They mixed and baked sugar cookies. After they cooled campers smashed vanilla wafers to represent sand. They put the "sand" on top of water (blue frosting) and added some swedish fish on top!
Next Week:
Wednesday, June 24th - Mrs. Black visits
Thursday, June 25th - Mr. Scoopy!!!!!
Friday, June 26 - Field Trip to Let's Pretend - The bus will be leaving The Childrens Garden at 9:00am
