14 more days until Christmas!!! The K's have been busy talking about their wish lists and telling each other what their elves have been up to! This week we went on a field trip to Ashcombes where the children got to make a wreath with fresh greens! They diligently wrapped wire around fresh greens to create their masterpiece and then with the help of an adult attached a bow and some yummy candies! We've also been taking advantage of the warmer weather and spending some much needed time outside playing!
Language Arts:
The students have been working on sight word list #9! They have been reading rebus sentences and playing new games like "I have, Who has?" They were also busy making a Christmas tree with sight word presents!
Math:
Numbers 17-20 were the focus this week! We reviewed how teen numbers start with 1 and sang a catchy song to help us remember this important information! The students practiced forming these important numbers by writing them in sand, tracing wiki sticks and rainbow writing.
Literacy:
On Monday we read a non-fiction book titled "Blizzards." We talked about how non-fiction books have a table of contents and a glossary as well as photographs to tell us about the story. The students practiced identifying the main idea of the story and drawing three facts about the story. On Friday we sang a song to help us remember the difference between fiction and non-fiction and students looked through book orders to find examples of fiction and non-fiction books!
Science:
We reviewed the characteristics of mammals and read "Is a Camel a Mammal?" We were excited to learn that a camel really is a mammal!! The students then created pictures of mammals in their science notebooks!
Character Education:
Listening was the focus of our lesson this week. We discussed why it was important to listen and what can happen if we don't listen. To help reinforce our listening skills we played Snowman Says and Telephone.
Social Studies:
This week in Social Studies we discussed Hanukkah and learned about the traditions surrounding Hanukkah. The children learned about the Dreidel and played a fun new game.
Christian Ed:
In Chapel this week we lit the second Advent candle. During our time with Pastor Sarah the students made Advent wreathes and candles. They lit two candles on their wreath. They are excited to learn about the third pink candle!
