It's been another busy week in kindergarten. Mr. Jon from Pennsylvania American Water visited us on Monday and talked to us about the water cycle, where our water comes from and how we can conserve water. Wednesday we had a special presentation from Zoo America. We saw a snake, owl, skunk and baby alligator. We even got to touch the baby alligator's tail! Our classroom has also been very busy this week! Language Arts: We have been learning about the letter Q and it's sound. The students made letter Q quilts, patterned letter q's and practiced writing the letter Q. They have also been busy working on their sight word lists. Math: We have begun a unit on 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional objects. We have been experimenting with 3D shapes to see if they roll, stack or slide. We also read "Spookly the Square Pumpkin" and made 3D cubes to resemble Spookly. Literacy: We read "Duck and Cover" and drew pictures of where we would hide an alligator in our homes. We finished our Jackie Urbanovic author study by reading "Sitting Duck" and learned that babysitting a puppy can be quite challenging! We finished our author study by voting on our favorite Jackie Urbanovic book. Social Studies: We read and acted out the story of the Pilgrims. Our dramatic play center has been transformed to allow the students to continue to act out this story complete with our very own Mayflower!! We also talked about things we are thankful for and completed the book "Pilgrim, Pilgrim What Do You See?" Centers: This week for centers we've been focusing on Thanksgiving activities. We wrote grocery lists, practiced setting the table, completed Thanksgiving puzzles, practiced writing Thanksgiving words and played Thanksgiving tic-tac-toe. Kidwriting: We are continuing our practice of writing sentences with our kidwriting. Students looked at a picture and used kidwriting and sightwords to write a sentence about their picture. We had some silly sentences!! Christian Education: We read the story of Naomi and Ruth and David and Goliath. Gym: In gym the students worked on a self control song - fast movements, slow movements, and stopping! They also practiced throwing and played a turkey game!
