It's been another busy week in kindergarten. We heard lots of stories about Halloween costumes and Halloween parties! We jumped back into our studies this week and learned a ton!
Language Arts:
This week the students have been working on sight word list #5. The students did rainbow writing, white board writing and sight word tic tac toe. They have also been working on the letters O and P. They sang "I Know Some Letters I Love to Sing" and practiced their vowel sounds. Letter P was practiced with different sensory stations.
Math:
In math the students are learning about more, less and equal. They counted ducks and fed ducks corn to determine more or less. They drew pictures of more, less and equal and learned how to play top it. They played this game with a partner. Ask them if they can tell you the directions! Students also learned how to use a number line to determine more or less.
Literature:
This week we met our new author Jackie Urbanovic and read "Duck at the Door." The students were asked what they would do if a duck knocked on their door! They also determined the difference between Max, the duck from our story, and a real duck and colored pictures of real vs. make believe. We finished the week reading "Duck Soup" and illustrating the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Science:
We are working on a mini unit of living and non-living things. We watched a powerpoint of pictures and determined if the pictures were of living or non-living things. We made a list of characteristics of living things and did a sorting activity. We also read "What's Alive?" and looked for living things during recess.
Social Studies:
We discussed the feeling of sad and how we can express our sadness and how to make ourselves feel better. We also discussed the feeling scared and read "The I'm Not Scared Book." We talked about things that help to not be scared and what to do when we are scared.
Kidwriting:
We practiced what is a sentence and practiced writing and telling sentences out loud about pictures.
Christian Ed:
We learned about Psalms with Pastor Sarah and wrote one for our class. We also learned about the ten commandments and the battle of Jericho.
Music:
This week in music students learned about pitch. They practiced making high and low pitches with instruments and their voices.
Gym:
We did some warm ups related to the word Thanksgiving and played a turkey stuffing game. The students also played turkey, turkey, farmer - much like duck, duck, goose.
Next Week:
