The kindergartners enjoyed seeing the Popcorn Hat Players this week and their presentation of "Sleeping Beauty." The kids were all smiles and laughs during the show! We were also busy continuing sight words and preparation for the 100th day of school!
Language Arts:
The students learned about the -op word family this week! They sang the -Op Song and made a -op word web! The students also practiced reading -op words in their little reader sound books. Students played "Bang!" to review their sight words!
Math:
We began the week by reviewing 3D shapes. Students matched real objects to 3D shapes, played with ice cream cones and playdough and sorted shapes and recorded information on a bar graph. Towards the end of the week students started working on numbers 20 - 29. They talked about place value and played a gumball matching game. They also practiced writing these numbers.
Science:
During science we read "From Tadpole to Frog" and talked about the life cycle of a frog. Students then completed a project showing the life cycle of a frog.

This week we read "I Am Abraham Lincoln" and talked about the important events in his life. The students then made their very own log cabins with pretzel sticks and icing. There was lots of building and lots of taste testing going on!
Social Studies:
Students talked about Martin Luther King Jr and why he was so important. The students also discussed what's in a box of crayons and read "The Colors of Us." After reading we discussed the shades of skin color and mixed paints to create a skin color and painted a face.
Health and Safety:
This week we taste tested fruits and veggies!! Students tasted spinach, cucumber, radish, sweet peppers, kiwi, grapes, oranges and pears. After the taste testing students voted on their favorite in each group! The fruits were by far the favorites among the K's!
