This week in kindergarten we started with a play day because the public schools were closed for Martin Luther King, Jr Day. Wednesday classes were cut short because of an early dismissal and Thursday classes started late because of a 2 hour delay. Magical Nick also visited this week and had us amazed with his wonderful tricks. We did get some instructional time in and continued with our learning.
Language Arts: This week students have been reviewing sight word lists 7, 8, and 9 and preparing for their sight word challenge. We finished the week in language arts with centers reinforcing our sight words.
Math: Students have been reviewing estimation this week by guessing the amount of objects in a bag. Numbers 20-40 have also been reviewed through team tic-tac-toe. Students also began working on their calendar books. We finished the week in math with centers to help review numbers 20-40.
Literacy: We read the biographies of Amelia Earhart and Abraham Lincoln. We had the opportunity to build our own paper airplanes that we piloted and created log cabins for Abraham Lincoln.
Science: We began learning about our sense of sight. We watched a short video describing the parts of our eye and what they do. Students learned that the colored part of the eye is called the iris and created a graph of our class eye colors. We finished class with a sight game. Students looked at pictures of items that were zoomed in closely and had to guess what the actual object was!
Kidwriting: Students listened to "My Biography: Martin Luther King, Jr" and talked about the dream he had. Students then used kidwriting to write their own dream for the future.
Music: We are continuing our study of musical instruments. This week we made oboes out of plastic straws. We practiced and practiced and some of the students were able to make an oboe sound!
Gym: Hockey was the focus of gym class this week. Students learned the basics of the game and were able to play a friendly game of floor hockey!
Christian Education: The Lords Prayer was the focus of our study this week.
Next Week:
Monday 1/26 - Chapel @ 9:15
Thursday 1/29 - Little Ceasar's Pizza Pickup @ 10:00 am
