We had quite a busy week in kindergarten! The Popcorn Hat Players came this week and presented a silly show on Greek mythology. Some of the kindergartners even got to participate :) Of course there was lots of learning happening this week too!
Language Arts:
Students were reviewing sight word liss 10, 11 and 12 in preparation for their sight word challenge. They were reading rebus sentences, playing around the world, coloring by sight word and playing a read and clip game. Students were also busy reading high frequency sentences and drawing a picture to match!
Math:
This week in math students were learning how to skip count by 5's and 10's. They played count and sit by skip counting 10's and created an ice cream cone by 10's. We practiced counting by 5's by doing some popcorn counting. Students crouched down and said 1,2,3,4 and popped up on 5 all the way to 100!! Calendar practice was also a focus this week. Students practiced filling in a calendar and sequencing the days of the week.
Literacy:
We wrapped up our unit on fairy tales this week. We started by reading "Little Red Riding Hood" and creating a list of things that were real and make believe in the story. Then we read "Little Red Riding Hood Told by the Wolf" and made a venn diagram comparing/contrasting the two stories. We finished the week by graphing our favorite fairy tales and drawing a picture of our favorite scene!
Science:
This week we learned about our heart and lungs. Students watched a short video on these vital organs and colored and count out a picture of each to glue to their life size person outline.
Social Studies:
We talked about homes around the world this week and read a book and looked at pictures from Africa and China. Students also created their own round house from China. We also talked about clothing around the world and got to look real Indian clothing.
Kidwriting:
This week we focused on when we need to use a period. Students wrote a sentence about their house with a period at the end.
Music:
In music class we watched a video showing different string instruments and filled in the string instrument page in our music books. We also created string instruments using recyclable materials and tape and rubber bands.
Gym:
We began our unit on basketball. The lesson focused on dribbling and keeping the ball close to you for control.
