It's been another busy week in kindergarten. Thursday we had soccer shots and learned the word honesty and played some games to help reinforce our understanding of this very important word. Friday was a snow day so the students enjoyed playing with their peers from Mechanicsburg School District.
Language Arts:
This week we've been reviewing vowels and the sounds they make by singing "Old McDonald Had a Vowel." Students were also reviewing the sounds in the beginning, middle and end of CVC words. Sight word lists 13 and 14 were reviewed and students played sight word football.
Math:
Students have been reviewing length and height along with measuring by capacity this week. We've also been talking about which tools used to measure different objects: ruler, yard stick, measuring cups, etc. Students have also been working on their calendar for the month of March and reviewing the days of the week. They've also been talking about specific things that happen on specific days of the week, ie: Friday we have gym.
Literature:
We have been continuing our unit on mystery books this week. We read "The Web Files" and worked in pairs to answer our different W questions-who, what, where, why, when. Wednesday we read "Strega Nona" and reviewed character, setting and beginning, middle and end. Students drew pictures of events from the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Science:
This week we learned about the brain and it's functions. We watched a short video showing us the different parts of the brain and we reviewed what the different parts do. Students then colored and cut out a brain and added it to their body outline. We hung all of the finished bodies in the hallway to see!
Social Studies:
This week we've been talking about what a president does and talking about who our president is. We read "My Teacher for President" and drew pictures of things presidents do. On Wednesday we reviewed the duties of the president and read "Duck for President" and talked about voting and elections. We had a practice vote in the afternoon to decide which book we were going to read.
Kidwriting:
We shared our story endings from last week and talked about writing sentences about a story. Student then wrote a sentence for the ending of a story.
Music:
We watched a video about how a drum is made and a video of Mrs. Goodhart's son playing the drums. Students also completed the percussion page in their music books.
Art:
Students began painting their self portraits in preparation for the art show.
Christian Ed:
Pastor Sarah talked to the students about the verse John 3:16 and they completed an art activity.
We had the opportunity to go outside and play multiple times this week and we are loving it!!! The students and teachers are ready for the nice weather :)
