We hope everyone had a nice Easter with family and friends! Sorry we didn't get a post up last week everyone was busy preparing for art show and the Easter bunny! The kindergartners enjoyed the nice weather last week and getting fresh air. The teachers did too! We were very busy in classes and continue preparing for the upcoming art show.
Language Arts:
Students read "Lyle and the Birthday Party" and completed a compare and contrast art activity. They also read "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" and created their own silly rhyming words. They played round robin with different word families and practiced segmenting word sounds. It starts with....and ends with....put it together and it says!
Math:
Students read "How Long is a Day" and talked about why we have daytime and nighttime. They differentiated between morning, afternoon and evening. Students played time telling games as a group and reviewed why we had day and night. They also completed their April calendar and reviewed the days of the week. Students finished the week with a time assessment.
Literacy:
We read "The Tale of Peter Rabbit: and drew a picture and wrote a sentence about how we would escape Mr. McGregor's garden. We also read "Corduroy's Easter Party" and completed Easter baskets for our egg hunt.
Science:
We read "Iris Has a Virus" and demonstrated how germs travel by putting vaseline and glitter on our hands. We then shaked and high fived our friends and watched how much the glitter traveled. We also read "Keeping Clean" and talked about all the times it's important to wash our hands. There are a lot! We then talked about the proper way to wash our hands and completed an experiment using a piece of bread. One piece of bread we touched with our unwashed hands then we washed our hands and touched another piece of bread. Bacteria and mold should grow on our dirty piece of bread because of the germs on our hands. We are monitoring this in our science notebooks. Wednesday we talked about ways we can stay healthy. We read "Using My Plate" and identified foods in the five food groups. The group sorted play food into different food groups and then each student made their own plate of food.
Social Studies:
Miss Lisa talked to the students about freedom and they made a poster showing freedom of speech, religion, school, voting and choice of where you live. Students shared their pictures with the class. They then played a review game for their presidential unit.
Kidwriting:
Students drew illustrations for the group stories they created for the art show.
Thursday we celebrated Easter with Easter crafts and activities. Students created an Easter grass cross, did work in Easter activity packets, dyed eggs and went on a Easter egg hunt.
This Week:
Thursday April 9th- Picture Day, Individual and Class Pictures
