It's been another busy week in kindergarten! There's been lots of ABC's and 123's!
The students enjoyed safety day on Thursday, Sept 17th. During safety day the students learned the proper way to cross the road - stop, look, listen, then you may cross when an adult says its ok! The students also got to talk to a real police officer and learned about safety around strangers. The officer even turned on his lights and let us sit in the car! The finally station was about car seat safety. We learned how to properly sit in a car seat and we all got weighed and measured so we can be accurately fitted in our car seats!
Language Arts:
The students are still working on sequencing the alphabet. We've been playing lots of letter recognition games and practicing writing our letters. The students worked in small groups to sequence all 26 letters of the alphabet! The students are also getting introduced to the sounds of the letters and practicing identifying lower case letters.
Math:
The students finished their unit on sorting. They completed a series of sorting stations and even sorted their own shoes! They then started patterns! We learned that patterns are everywhere we look! We began practicing creating our own patterns and finding patterns in books.
Literature:
This week we read "A Bad Case of Stripes," " Alice the Fairy," and "Too Many Toys." We drew portraits of ourselves and added lots of silly stripes! After reading "Alice the Fairy" we made a list of real and make believe things from the story. We discovered that Alice is not a real fairy but her imagination is real! After reading "Too Many Toys" we talked about the problem that Spencer was facing - he had too many toys. We then talked about different solutions to his problem!
Science:
We practiced using a scale this week. Students picked two different items and predicted which one would be heavier. After predicting they tested their prediction and recorded the information in their science notebooks. On Thursday we completed a sorting activity. We sorted items by toys and science tools. The students then worked with partners to sort items on their own!
Character Education:
We read "Join in and Play." We talked about the appropriate ways to join others in play and how to be a good friend. We worked together with partners to make posters to remind us how to be good friends!
Next Week:
Thursday, September 24th- Picture Day
Friday, September 25th - Non-Teaching Day - Students may bring ONE toy from home. This can include electronics.
