It's been a rainy week in kindergarten but we've been trucking along on learning! The kindergarteners were busy learning all week and celebrated the end of their pattern unit on Friday with a special pattern day!
Language Arts:
The students have been working on the motion associated with the sound letters make. They have been acting out the motions and making the sounds that go with the letters. The students have also started writing words! They played a group game where they spun a spinner. They had to write the word that began with the letter the spinner landed on.
Math:
This week the students have been working on sound and movement patterns. They created talking, singing and movement patterns using their bodies. The students listened to music to identify sound patterns and did the Cha Cha Slide! They also participated in different pattern learning centers. They made leaf rubbing patterns, car track patterns, patterns with shapes on the sticky board and used clothespins to hang clothes in a pattern! They wrapped everything up with pattern day. Everyone was wearing silly patterns and the students made patterns with popcorn, candy corn and mini-marshmellows!
Literacy:
This week we began a new author, Margie Palatini. We read "Moosestache" and talked about the problem Moose had, his moosestache was out of control! We reviewed the many things he did to try to tame his moosestache and learned that Ms. Moose had the perfect solution - GLUE! We also read "Moosekitos" and reviewed the parts of the story and the problem and the solution!
Science:
We became meteorologists this week and have been recording the weather in our science notebooks! We learned about the cloud family and how different clouds mean different types of weather! We also made rain in a cup and started to talk about the water cycle.
Music:
Students distinguished between speaking, talking and singing. The class made a list of the times you would use these different sounds and played a game practicing these sounds.
Social Studies:
We began our unit on feelings this week and focused on anger. We talked about how its ok to feel angry and everyone feels that way at times. We talked about times that made us angry and how we can deal with that anger.
Art:
The students made found art mobiles with the help of Ms. Goodhart. They used all types of materials to make their mobiles.
Kidwriting:
This week we practiced writing the beginning letter of words. We wrote what we wanted to be when we grow up.
Next Week:
